Summit - Oak Harbor, WA
Big personality that loves adventure
Summit is extremely playful and athletic, and loves to explore the world. He is often found standing, romping, and splashing in the nearest body of cold water he can find (though has not yet actually managed the swimming part!). He enjoys taking in the fresh air outdoors and could spend hours rolling in the grass, peeing on rocks, and staring at the sky, but he is also equally at home just snuggled up on the couch, watching TV, and receiving as many belly rubs as he possibly can. Even though he adores being out and about, he definitely prefers that his people are with him at all times as he loves being with his family more than anything. He sulks when he is cruelly abandoned alone at home but he is completely trustworthy and just sits quietly on the couch or by the door awaiting his family’s return.
Summit is very talkative and has an array of sounds that include really long loud sighs, trills, woos, whines, and barks. He will bark to alert when someone enters his domain but he will also quickly befriend anyone invited in (though this is admittedly accompanied by a lot of excited noise).
Huge snuggler with a sweet, gentle heart
Although happy and enthusiastic most of the time, Summit is a gentle boy and can be responsive and sensitive to what is happening around him. He has adapted his energy levels to his people when they have been injured or otherwise needed him to slow down.
Summit is extremely toy and treat motivated. He has met dogs of all sizes, intact and not, and has not shown anything but a desire to befriend Every. Single. One. He tends to moderate his play depending on the needs and size of the dog. He has encountered dogs who were reactive towards him but he shows no reactivity in return and just moves away or ignores the dog. Although he does not currently live with any children, he loves seeing children and will always try to greet them. He has been very gently receiving treats and pets from friends’ children who ranged in age from 2 to 10.
Summit is part of the second approved cross litter under the COA's Chinook Breed Conservation Program (CBCP). You can learn more about the cross breeding program on the COA website. Summit and his littermates are 50% Chinook and 50% Bernese Mountain Dog. The BMD was chosen due to their wonderful mushball personality, great temperament, working breed, good bone size, and double coat; all in the hopes to keep the great temperament and working ability of the Chinook while bringing in new genes to help diversify the Chinook gene pool.
