We are overjoyed to share the wonderful news that Ava and Pippin, a truly harmonious match in health, genetics, type, and temperament, have a litter! It seems their connection was undeniable, and their romance unfolded quickly and beautifully.

Ava and Pippin both have been health-tested and have OFA "Good" hips, "Normal" eyes, and no known genetic conditions reflecting our commitment to responsible breeding. 7 pups are tawny (some with black masking) and 2 are black & tan. Size should be average to above average for Chinooks (Ava is quite large and Pippin is average). Being a 75% Chinook/25% Bernese Mountain Dog litter, we are expecting heads to more closely resemble Chinooks, but still retain some blockiness from the Berners. Temperaments are a standout for both dogs and we expect these pups to be great family dogs.

This will be a satellite litter for Desert Sol Chinooks with the puppies being raised west of Tacoma, Washington with Ava's family and Desert Sol assisting Ava's family as much as possible, including the screening and supporting of the puppy’s new homes. Since this is a Chinook Breed Conservation Program, we'll be especially interested in homes willing to keep their dogs open for future breeding. Introducing Ava, the picture of health and grace. She possesses both striking beauty and a deeply loving heart. Known for her empathy and unwavering devotion to her family, Ava is her people's constant companion. While she may present a mellow and slightly aloof demeanor to newcomers, her love for her own is profound. She has a stunning coat, great bone, and an impressive stature and may very well be the largest female Chinook-blooded dog around. Her adventurous spirit shines through in her explorations of the Washington State rainforests. We eagerly anticipate the arrival of her puppies and the gentle, loving nature they are sure to inherit from their wonderful mother.

Ava was born October 25, 2019 in Phoenix, Arizona as part of the Throne of Glass litter. Being 50/50 Bernese Mountain Dog/Chinook, Ava is a member of both the Chinook Breed Conservation Program and the Bernese Mountain Dog Vitality Project. Future Chinook and BMD litters will bring better health and diversity to both breeds.

Meet Pippin, called "Sweet, Happy, Pretty Boy Puppy" by his loving family – and soon-to-be-dad to a very special litter! He's a bundle of sweetness and perpetual happiness, with looks to match. His devotion to his humans is heartwarming; every homecoming, no matter how brief, is met with exuberant joy. When we're home, he's our constant, loving shadow, happy just to be near. He is gentle with young children, showering them with affection. Playful and sociable, he adores interacting with other dogs (and even playfully eyes the neighborhood coyotes!). For quiet moments, his ultimate bliss is a good snuggle and endless belly rubs – a true testament to his loving nature. In addition to sweetness, he is handsome showing good balance and traditional Chinook type. We eagerly anticipate seeing his wonderful temperament and charm reflected in his upcoming puppies.

Week 8+ - 7/13/2025

The Northwest Forest Litter gave us an excellent excuse to take a vacation to the PNW for Jon and Kristy… PUPPIES! We figured we had lots of people to visit up here and we started the trip off with hanging out with the NW Forest pups and doing their puppy evaluations and choosing the final homes. It’s always magical to spend time with the entire litter at the same time as they run around and play by the trees that they were named after (fun fact: I believe Matt said that 7 of the 9 tree names that the pups are named after were in their backyard!). Although, Matt and Chelsi, who did an amazing job raising these puppies, did not think it was as magical as us as they chase after 9 puppies going in 9 different directions under several trees and bushes! :D

All pups have such amazing temperaments and were well socialized. We were able to snuggle up and play with them and they were all happy to meet us new people. We also got to spend some time “officially” (vs. online) meeting Ginger from Rain Mountain Chinooks and Susan from Frontier Chinooks when they stopped by to do puppy temperament testing and chat with us. It’s always great meeting other breeders and hearing their stories and learning some things as well as hearing how well the pups are from their perspectives. As a bonus we also got to meet Shay, a pup Susan got from Granite Hill Chinooks in NH, and she’s a daughter from our own pup Luc. We also got to meet Alison, who was already out there enjoying a mini vacation prior to bringing her puppy home, which ended up being Spruce!

Willow will also remain in WA and live with Karla. She lives nextdoor to her daughter and her family so Willow will have plenty of grandkids around to play with and love on her. Although Karla’s daughter said that she should have named her pup “Noodle” since she moves her whole body most of the time! Happy puppy wiggles!
