With the pairing of Zazu (57 pounds, 24 inches) and Marv (85 pounds, 27 inches) pups will likely will be average to above average in size for the breed. Zazu is a fun loving, sweet girl with a great head and rear. She has excellent drive in harness and is very loving and loyal to her family. Marv has good bone and a deep chest. He is very sociable with new humans and dogs and is the perfect family dog.

Both have 'Normal' eyes and OFA 'Good' hips. Neither has a history of seizures or food allergies. Genetic diversity is extremely important to the long-term health of the Chinook breed. As with all of our litters, dam and sire were chosen to maximize genetic diversity of the resulting puppies first and foremost. Additionally, we consider health of the sire and dam (as well as close family members), temperament, and structural conformation to hopefully create the best pups possible.

Zazu is a sweet, smart, and fun loving girl. She is an outdoorsy dog and will let you know when you are late for her morning walk or when she wants to go bask in the sun on her favorite lawn chair out back. Zazu loves playing with other dogs. She also loves people and can be just as friendly as her mama Kyra, although in her home she's a bit more reserved with strangers. After lots of training and socialization, she now warms up quickly to strangers- the more dog friendly the people, the faster she starts to lick you and shove her head under your hand for pets!

Zazu is a curious dog and will follow you from room to room to see what's going on, and will try to play with anything if she can. During chore time it's really hard to use the Swiffer sweeper with all the barking and attacking of the sweeper going on. Zazu has that perpetual puppy personality that we hope she passes onto her puppies! She was a great mama during her first and second litters with the perfect balance of responsibility, discipline, and fun in regards to her pups.

Marv (Rain Mountain Kokopelli Marvel) is a goofball at heart. He loves his morning walks and no longer needs to hear the alarm before he makes sure everyone knows he’s ready to go! He lives in Glendale, AZ with Jeff and Jennifer, his two boys, Dean and Reid and his cat, Monkey. Marv is very smart and intuitive – he knows how to behave when he sees his people and if someone is sad, he’ll be there with a paw on your leg or ready to play when he sees excitement. He loves meeting new people and dogs and as well-behaved as he is, the moment he knows that he is allowed to go meet a new dog, the sled dog in him kicks in and he will pull you over as fast as he can go.

Marv is a constant companion. He is happiest when he knows his family is home even if he’s not the center of attention. He will never pass up a belly rub and he may be spoiled enough to expect them now…but he deserves them! We believe that he will forever be a puppy. His bright spirit and love for adventure indoors and out make him fun to be around all the time.

Week 8

Week 8+ - 10/31/2021

It’s been awhile before I wrote the week 8 pupdate, but still have plenty of memories from these adorable kitties! Week 8 always helps prepare us better for the puppies to go home. Even with only 4, their mobility, energy and teeth are a lot more work (lots more opportunities to start nipping training since they’re using their teeth to explore more). The pups play time also covers more area of the yard (so more room for shenanigans) and they are playing harder with each other and their nursemaid Aelin. Even mama Zazu got in on the action more now that they are more dog like and aren’t trying to feed from her as much.

I was worried how Aelin would take the departure of the pups since she was such an excellent nursemaid and seemed almost obsessed with them. The timing was instinctual for her as well as Zazu, even though she didn’t birth them. She actually played a bit less with them, instead focusing more on playing with Zazu. She wasn’t hanging out with them as much in the house either. When they left for her homes, we didn’t see any moping or her searching for them. She was a super nursemaid and loved playing with them, but when it was time, she was able to move on naturally. The entire situation was such a neat thing to experience with her (and an extra marvel at how nature works!). We hope she’s a super mom herself when it comes time for her own puppies!

We had some nice visits with the pup’s new owners. Janet spent a lovely evening with us and I got to reminisce with stories from Cape Cod. Laura and Jason also spent a day with us and we got to walk Aby and the remaining pups to the lake and fountain for the day. Bill visited us after his work trip and we got to meet Jessica on Zoom so we could show her and their kids their new pup. Andy’s visit was quicker but he got to spend some time playing with the pups before heading out on his flight.

Well my little kitties are now thriving in their new homes. It was such a fun theme, I almost wished we had more kitties running around, but for Zazu, I’m sure she was happy with a smaller litter for her last one! Now she’s officially “retired” and can now hopefully have some fun with her grandpups that Aelin will have one day. Luc is living the life out on Cape Cod! This boy loved sleeping outside in the cold while his siblings slept indoors while here in AZ, so I’m sure he loves the cooler weather and snow he gets out in MA! Luc is very seaworthy as well, as he goes out on a boat with his mom, Janet, and loves going to the beach almost daily to run in the sand, collect driftwood and splash in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. This super sweet pup gets lots of compliments for his beauty and his intelligence.

Sweet little Aby is heading to FL with Laura and Jason and will have two kids and two kitties to play with! (The jury is still out on the one kitty who isn’t quite sure about her excited playing but the other one will sleep near her and let her play gently.) This beautiful and photogenic girl loves her kids and walking to their bus stop every day or joining them on family vacations. Her family added “Seas the Day” to her name, as a play on words of “Seize the Day” to have her name reflect their family lifestyle. Seize was changed to Seas since they live near the ocean so it has a fun double meaning.

Ranger headed to Northern CA with Bill and Jessica and their two kids! Ranger got to hang out with us a little before his departure and he was such a sweet and calm boy and it was great to hear he still was just as sweet with his new family! He always wants a little love before he eats his food, I guess you could say he’s very appreciative of it, such a little gentleman!

Maz was named after a Star Wars character who is wise and has connections to the mystical side of the galaxy. Dubbed by his family of Neda and Andy and their three kids as the “Best Puppy Ever”, this smart and sweet boy excelled at his training and loves his kids as well as the family kitty! He’s living it up in OR where he can easily go to the mountains and play in snow, which he loves, or head out to the beach, which he also enjoys, as well as getting to hang out in their dog friendly town or down by the river.
