Birth

Week 1

Week 1 - 8/9/2026

The Utah Mighty 5 & Beyond litter is a week old! The puppies are growing well and starting to show some personalities. Mom is starting to bounce back from the long labor and delivery.

Zion (white), Canyon (brown) and Cedar (orange) are the most relaxed of the bunch. Little Ms. Reef (purple) is tenacious; she's often upside down forcing her way onto a nipple by pushing off her bigger siblings and has the biggest voice of all, letting everyone know when she is getting squished or fighting for some milk. At the same time, she is the cutest sleeper of the bunch. She is always cuddled with a bigger sibling, often Cedar (orange), or in the crook of mom's neck. Bryce (magenta) has the best cat impersonation noises, while Spike (yellow) will do cute puppy growl and bark practice in her sleep. Archie (blue), Goblin (red) and Dino (green) are pretty mellow, but do not enjoy their puppy stimulation sessions at all.

Outside of their eating and sleeping, they are being held often by our family and select well known guests that Maybird likes, living through a new roof install (good thing their ears are closed a few more days), and made 2 trips in the car to the vet on day 1 for mom precaution after all the retained placentas. And each day ends with a fire line of weigh in, puppy stimulation exercises (toe tickling, being held perpendicular to the ground, head down, on their back, and then on a wet towel, and then back in the whelping box for the night). These exercises, though seemingly simple, are crucial for helping them become better-adjusted dogs. They can lead to improved resistance to cancers and disease, increased stability, enhanced exploratory behavior, and faster learning abilities. These small stressors actually help stimulate electrical activity in their developing brains.

We're starting to see signs of little tails wagging and one or two have tried to get up on their feet instead of army crawling around the whelping box. Everyone is excited for the changes to come in the next 7 days!
