And now the Mighty 5 & Beyond litter is off to their new homes. This was a satellite litter for Desert Sol Chinooks, which means a family dedicated their time and love raising these pups with our guidance and support. This note is from them ...

The 8 weeks we had with all of the puppies was an amazing experience. From the surprise late night birth of Cedar, to their eyes opening and first steps. Watching them grow and develop was incredible and a great biology lesson for our two sons. To think that in the course of 8 weeks they went from totally reliant on Maybird, to intrepid little explorers and chewers is pretty mind blowing. It was wonderful to meet all of the new puppy homes as you came to pick up your dog. Pups are going to a variety of homes from young couples, to families, and retirees. Some will have dogs to meet and bond with, while others get to be doted on as only dog-children. Yet, from all of you we felt an incredible warmth and excitement for bringing one of these puppies home. We know you'll all provide them with incredible experiences, lots of cuddles and so much love. Thank you!

Enjoy one last look at these pups as they head off to their new forever homes.

The Utah Mighty 5 & Beyond litter (as always in order of appearance):

Desert Sol Pacific Skye Arches (fka Archie)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Male

Call Name:

Arches

Name Origin/Destination:

Arches went to NH to join Ferncroft Chinooks who also has two Chinooks, Fern and Eden. Eden has taken to “mothering” him and sometimes disciplines or steps in when she thinks Fern is playing too rough with him! His new family decided to keep the name Arches as it was unlike a NH Mountain name like they’ve used before, and keeping with the outdoors theme he grew up with. His new mom hopes to take him hiking on many of the NH State peaks once he’s old enough!

Desert Sol Zeke (fka Goblin)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Male

Call Name:

Zeke

Name Origin/Destination:

Zeke will be heading to CO to live with his newly retired dad and mom. His dad has been friends with another one of our puppy owners that lives in CT for years and years and his Chinooks is what drew him to the breed. Having a new puppy to do things with in retirement sounded like a great way to spend it! Zeke’s name is an homage to the greatest dog his dad ever knew, who was a special friend during a very challenging time in his childhood. Zeke is the shortened version of Ezekiel which means “strength of God”, or "God will strengthen”, and it carries with it an aura of ancient wisdom. The shortened version has the personality a cool surfer dude, and these two things combined seems perfect for this guy.

Desert Sol Lolo CallOfTheWild (fka Reef)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Female

Call Name:

Lolo

Name Origin/Destination:

Lolo will be heading to CA to live with her new family, and a fellow Chinook friend, Linden. Lolo is the word for “a carrier” in the Chinook language of the Pacific Northwest. In addition, Lolo Pass, Lolo Mountain, Lolo Trail, Lolo Hot Springs and Lolo National Forest are some of her new family’s favorite places in the Bitterroot Mountain Range on the Montana/Idaho border, where they spend a lot of their time’. "CallOfTheWild” is for their love of the great outdoors and the novel's author, Jack London, lived close to their home on Sonoma Mountain.

Desert Sol Byrdie Bear (fka Bryce)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Female

Call Name:

Byrdie

Name Origin/Destination:

Byrdie is our first pup to land in ID to live with her family and two teenage daughters. Their family decided on this name because they like the connection to the Chinook heritage of being the transport for Admiral Byrd's Antarctic expedition in 1928. At first, it felt more appropriate for the last litter they were interested in (New Hampshire Natives Litter), but when they found out that this litter's mama is named Maybird, they knew it was meant to be! She will go by Byrdie, but they added "Bear" because they want their pup to be a part of the family and it feels intimate. Plus, she'll be getting a lot of snuggles like a teddy bear.

Desert Sol Bailey Zion (fka Zion)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Female

Call Name:

Bailey

Name Origin/Destination:

Bailey will be heading to OR to live with her new family, two kids and another doggie friend. Her family chose the name Bailey Zion for her. Their son loved it and pulled it out of a list of names he and their daughter came up with. He often calls her “Bailey Shark”. Which seems to go well with her stage of development at the moment! Just wait until she’s Bailey Velociraptor!

Desert Sol Supernova Seaport (fka Spike)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Female

Call Name:

Nova

Name Origin/Destination:

Nova will be living with her new family in AZ and she will have a doggie and kitty friend to play with. Her family really likes the name “Nova.” A supernova is a spectacular, powerful event in the universe, and they thought it was a fitting name for a dog who will bring so much joy and adventure into their lives. They chose Seaport after looking through Maybird’s pedigree and discovering that Nova’s great-great-great-grandmother was Lighthouse’s Mystic Seaport, a remarkably accomplished Chinook who held numerous titles. She was the most titled Chinook in the breed at the time, which they thought was incredible.

They loved the idea of carrying on a small piece of her legacy through Nova, especially because they hope to see the Chinook breed continue to grow, thrive, and become more widely known. Seaport also has a personal meaning for them: one of their favorite vacation spots is the little seaport of Apalachicola, Florida. It is a wonderful, dog-friendly town where pups are welcomed at so many restaurants, bars, and shops, often with treats and plenty of attention. So for them, Supernova Seaport represents a combination of a name they love, the remarkable Chinook history Nova comes from, and a place that holds special memories for their little family.

Desert Sol Dakota Byrd (fka Dino)

chinook puppy

Sex:

Male

Call Name:

Koda

Name Origin/Destination:

Koda will be living nearby in UT with his new family and three kids, who got to visit the litter a few times as they grew up. The word Dakota comes from the indigenous Dakota branch of the Siouan language family and serves as an autonym meaning ‘those who are friendly or allied’. The family will be calling him by the nickname ‘Koda’ and they’re certain to be friends and allies. They chose Bryd because a 100-pound tawny lead sled dog named Chinook was the foundation sire of the Chinook dog breed, and he served as the backbone of transport on Admiral Richard E. Byrd's first Antarctic expedition from 1927 to 1930.

Desert Sol Canyon Snow

chinook puppy

Sex:

Male

Call Name:

Canyon

Name Origin/Destination:

Canyon is the lucky pup that is staying with Tyler & Lu Lu and their family in UT, along with momma Maybird! Maybird’s family felt fortunate enough to raise the Mighty 5 & Beyond puppies and give them their litter names in recognition of the natural beauty of our home state of Utah. While Canyon's name originally was a reference to Canyonlands NP, there are countless canyons in the state that have helped their family grow to love it here. From Little Cottonwood Canyon where they ski each winter, to Millcreek Canyon up from their home where every odd day is dog off leash day, and the slot canyons and washes of southern Utah where they explore and camp. Canyon the dog will be their daily reminder to get out and play and enjoy their state. They also kept “Snow” as Canyon’s middle name in honor of his mom Maybird Snow.

Desert Sol Cedar

chinook puppy

Sex:

Male

Call Name:

Cedar

Name Origin/Destination:

Cedar will also be living nearby in UT with his new family with two kids. They are friends of Maybird’s family so Cedar and Canyon will be able to have puppy playdates together! His new family has similar activities so they felt a Chinook would be a great addition. They decided to keep the name Cedar as it felt like it was a good fit since he will be staying in Utah and they are familiar with the national parks as well. They also wanted something desert themed and natural for the name.
