Week 3 - 6/26/2016
Week 3...we have some mobile pups! Can I just pause and say that they are freakin' adorable?!!! All of their eyes are open and bright and they respond to us as we sit down to play. They crawl into our laps and lick us to death- Chinooks start their kissing reputation early in life! They are play fighting with their toys and each other. Cute little puppy barks and growls as they try to figure out who is top dog (seems like Ketsy and Vinnie, when he's not sleeping, are the toughest so far). The best part of any of my days is sitting down in the puppy box or outside and there are at least three puppies in my lap all cuddling and nibbling on me! Mango seems to be my little buddy this week, always one of the pups in my lap when I come to play. :)
The pups have gotten some time in our dog kennel outside in the early morning or late evening. The misters are running to keep them cool as they eat, play and sleep. The fun starts when we open the kennel and sit down to play in the backyard. They are all walking pretty good now and come running when you yell, "Puppies!" Having ten little adorable furballs running at you always puts a smile on your face, especially with all of their tails wagging excitedly! We play for about 15 mintues before heading inside. Kyra plays the game 'keep away from my belly' as she tries to find a spot to lay down that they don't venture to yet. Zazu is beside herself in happiness now that the pups can sort of run around and actually pay a little attention to her. Although they can't quite keep up with her zoomies around the backyard, and they frequently get knocked over until we tell her to slow down. Soon she will have the play buddies she has been waiting for.
The pups' personalities are starting to show a bit. Right now I can say that 'sweet' is the top of everyone's personality! They had some visitors this week, including our niece and nephews, so they got to have some other interaction with different people and children. The upcoming weeks should get more visitors now that they don't just sleep all the time.
As cute and fun that they are now, their mobility also means craziness. Try putting ten puppies down to feed and watch them all scatter once they're done. They are sort of like turtles- slow moving, yet when you don't look at them for a second they seem to be on the other side of the room already. How do they do that?!
Sweetie, Buffy, Nacho, and Ketsy have all completed the Desert Sol rite of passage: falling into the pond. This week we've started exposing them to all sorts of sounds like lawn equipment, a train, thunder/rainstorm, and others so we can help them be bullet proof when they're older. We'll continue the noise desensitization as well as introducing the pups to more surfaces and other household objects.
