Week 4 - 7/3/2016
Week 4 – Puppy, puppy, puppy get your puppies here! I can say one of the best things I get to experience while raising a litter of puppies, especially Chinook puppies, is their unbridled JOY! Everything is interesting and a wonder to them. Everyone is their friend they get to kiss and sometimes nibble on. My favorite part is when I come home from work and they realize that I’m now here and they run over to the edge of their box and yip at me and I stick my face and arms down and there are 10 fuzzy puppies clamoring all over, licking my face and arms and tugging at my hair. Their excitement brings a smile to my face every time.
Overall these puppies are pretty well-behaved considering there’s 10 of them! They usually wait to poop until they are in the backyard. They are doing this pretty consistently and much sooner than previous litters (you’re welcome new puppy owners). They can run around pretty good now and will all come running if we yell “puppies!” (as seen in a previous video) and to the dinner ‘bell’ when we tap their food dish. They are super curious with the pond and are very careful to not fall in while trying to pull out some of the plants. The only time they fall in now is when they are crazed when mommy Kyra is nearby and they are trying to follow her to get a coveted snack!
Ketsy has been the winner with the most firsts. She was the first to open her eyes, and the first to walk, the first to notice us and interact and play with us, and the first to follow us inside so we don’t have to carry them all the time. She is also quite the little explorer and is often off checking something out. The other two major explorers are Sweetie and Buffy.
They all reach the outer corners of the yard checking something out, while the rest do go off and explore, it’s usually closer to where we are at. This personality really suits Buffy, since she was the only pup to be born outside! When Kyra tricked us during whelping in thinking she had to go to the bathroom, Jon followed her outside just in case. A minute later he’s yelling at us to bring the supplies because the pup was being born outside! So we decided to name her Buffy, since she was so tough, it could also be associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (90’s throwback!).
