Tuli and Arlo each have a great temperament good for a family dog and are generally pretty fearless. Read about each of them below. Five pups were born (all tawny). Size should be very average for a Chinook (likely no particularly large dogs for this litter).

This is a satellite litter for Desert Sol Chinooks with the puppies being raised in San Diego, CA with Tuli's family and Desert Sol assisting Tuli's family as much as possible, including the screening and supporting of the puppy’s new homes. Tuli has an unreservedly sweet and outgoing temperament, loving other dogs, kids, strangers, wildlife and our pet cats. Admirers often comment on how much she looks like a friendly coyote, often just before being surprised with a Chinook face kiss. She’s made quite a fan club of those who love her temperament. In her “compact mode” Tuli is small ( - and patient! - ) enough to crawl in an extra-large camping backpack or under the seat of an airplane, and will even curl up on any available lap during the work day, when not snoozing for hours in her den.

She’s eager to please, and even demurs to the cat’s fickle rules. After much coaching, she’s learned to “speak” on command, something she previously reserved only to shout in the excitement of seeing another dog who might be coaxed into a game of chase. We have yet to find anything that scares this fearless daredevil: whether fireworks, vacuum cleaners, rock climbing or ocean paddleboarding, she’s okay with it all. Her favorite activities include skijouring, wilderness scrambling or tidepooling (where she’s an expert at jumping from rock to rock and dodging getting damp from incoming waves). She loves her daily walks on the beach and playing fetch with found objects.

Arlo has a fun, goofball personality. He loves his human family deeply - his happiest place is surrounded by his 5 human siblings and out hiking in the woods with his people. He is brave and not scared of anything (vacuum, fireworks, loud music etc.). He is super friendly with other dogs and has many dog friends both male and female. If he is confronted by an aggressive or dominant dog...he definitely lets them be alpha. He barks when the doorbell rings or if a stranger walks into the house but other than that...he is not noisy. He has met cats and even had a bunny who lived with us for the first few years of his life and albeit he was super interested in the bunny- he was always gentle and kind....same with the cats he has met.

He loves kids as he has grown up surrounded by them and has a special bond with my youngest daughter who was only 2 years old when we got Arlo. He lets her play dress up with him, lie all over him, read to him....the list goes on. His favourite thing is to lie in her room while I'm putting her to bed and wake her up in the morning with kisses. He enjoys camping and having mountain bike adventures. He loves water that he can stand in (rivers or shallow ocean) but is not as keen on deep water- he will not go in a swimming pool (thank goodness). He has been very easy to train and knows the rules. He is easygoing and very, very affectionate.

Week 4 - 7/2/2022

Happy 4th of July! Puppies are getting more independent each day, and have all figured out how to climb small steps, escape the play pool on a boogie board ladder, and are okay with a little time alone (separate from litter and separate from momma Tuli). Pups are well prepared for the festivities, with daily sounds of fireworks, doorbells and farm noises to acclimate them. We'll have a small puppy party on the 4th of July to introduce the pups to noise, fireworks overhead and the smells of BBQ. Mmm.

Puppies returned from Mammoth Lakes early in the week, making this their second car journey. They were much more active this time around, and seem happy to be in the car. As a bonus, they had their first wagon ride with momma Tuli. Pups had more adventures outside in the bark, and interactions with new humans and children, and graduated from the whelping box into a large puppy playpen with interactive toys.

All puppies have very easy going temperaments and seek out human attention and comfort from cuddles. All puppies will fall asleep in a lap, and kiss faces and noses. All of the pups have inherited a double dose of Tuli and Arlo's mellow easygoing attitude to all things new and fun.

Hippo seeks out human love with HUGE puppy eyes and an eager running wobble toward the sight of a person. He loves to give a tough, low warning WOOF when he hears something strange in the night (a trait from Arlo!), which we find hilarious. He's often delayed by a minute, but is the first one to notice and react to anything strange or new even if his reaction is always 100% joy at the unexpected sound or visitor.

Magic remains our independent adventurer, always the first to wander off someplace new, or go off on her own away from other pups fearlessly. We think she's the most like Tuli in that way, and will make an excellent adventure companion, just as Tuli was always quietly up for new things, Magic is small but mighty! She remains the last to figure out how to squeeze into the feeding mayhem, and prefers to sit and watch for an opportunity to latch onto momma's milk bar instead. This tiny one doesn't seem to have a competitive streak.

(Dill) Pickle is easygoing, often sleeping on his back or in the middle of a cuddlepuddle with his back legs draped awkwardly over another puppy (pic). He's an observer, and reliably happy to snuggle or play. Rainbow and (Sugar &) Spice are nearly indistinguishable in personality. Both are mellow, love people, and come running when food is offered to compete with the boys for mush...
