Week 5 & 6 - 7/16/2022

Puppies are growing and bulking up. All pups can follow mom’s lead and mouth/eat dry food, and all are still offered soft food as well. Pups can explore the yard fully and leap over small obstacles and steps! Pups have started playing with mom, games of “got your nose” being the favorite.

Magic found a treat that Tuli had buried ages ago in the yard, and proceeded to carry it around proudly. Tuli promptly stole the treat back and buried it again. A few minutes later, Magic could be seen carrying the treat away to a new spot to gnaw. Awhile later she learned to carry an entire bone around the yard proudly, and hunt chase and “fetch” small light ping pong balls. She continues to be the most independent and intrepid of the bunch. While the others enjoy being held on their back and snuggled, Magic will choose when she wants snuggles and come to you (and no being held on the back please!).

Pickle and Rainbow enjoy face licks and are, with Hippo, always the first to respond to calls of “puppy puppy puppy”. Sugar and Spice is a mellow intermediate in temperament, she enjoys snuggling and adventuring equally!

Hippo continues to surprise himself and others with a warning woof on new visitors, which is quickly followed with excited jumps for attention and love.

All puppies enjoy new people and faces, and seek out all of the attention they can! The ball pit is a big hit, with noise making and carrying balls around being the highlight. None of the pups seemed to enjoy the kid pool with shallow water, but we work on it day by day.

Tuli’s chinook friend Akina was introduced to the pups and the pups were very interested in this new and nearly familiar smell. With Akina and Akina’s owners help, we took the overly bored pups out for new smells in a safe place without any other dogs (and tucked away safely in a cat backpack). Pups enjoyed the new adventure and fell asleep promptly after.
