We can’t thank John and Tiina enough for raising these sweet, fun and well-adjusted Valentine pups! They have been exposed to so many unique things and experiences from the horses at the barn to eating every kind of meat imaginable! (We got to witness the jackrabbit meal one visit.) These pups got the usual desensitization to objects, people and sounds as well and all seem to be the bullet proof pups we like to send home to their new families. I’m sure John and Tiina can’t wait to get back to their outdoor activities, but it seems like raising these pups was a fun and enjoyable experience to do as well! And there’s nothing extra special than keeping a pup you raised from the second it was born. Amor will have a fun-filled and adventurous life with his mom Zia with lots of rodeos, hiking and trail rides with the horses.

And lucky for us, it was a satellite litter that was just over an hour away so we could visit often and get our puppy fix in between our own litters. Three of the pups, all the boys actually, stopped by our house on their trips home so we could spend an hour or so we got to meet their new owners and say goodbye to the pups! This litter also had a special milestone with Brisa (now Hailey) and Eros (now Yoshi) as being the first ALL black pups to be born in a very long time (and at the time of writing this, the only ones alive that we know of)!!! At Desert Sol, we love our multi colored Chinooks (a buff one will be added to our kennel soon too from another litter!).

Read below to see the pups’ new names, destinations and see their new families!

The Valentine litter (as always in order of appearance):

Desert Sol Roman Apollo (formerly known as Rolo)

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Roman

Sex:

Male

Weight:

14lb 12oz

Destination:

Brittany loved the name Apollo, but with Rolo’s uncle being named Apollo, he’s going by the name Roman officially (it also is very similar to Rolo which both she and Sam thought was a cute name as well). Roman will head up to North Dakota and have a little girl to play with, and who already loves him so much!

Desert Sol Ferncroft's Mina

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Mina

Sex:

Female

Weight:

16lb 13oz

Destination:

Kelly loved the name Mina and thought it was too cute to not keep, so she will remain as Mina! She is loving hiking with her mom up in NH as well as with Darcy of Ferncroft Chinooks and Mina’s Chinook grandmother Fern! Mina is not only super sweet, she is one smart pup and already graduated her puppy class!

Desert Sol Medb (formerly known as Aime)

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Medb (pronounced Maeve)

Sex:

Female

Weight:

13lb 8oz

Destination:

Ted and Melissa chose the name Medb (the Old Irish spelling of Maeve) which means “she who rules”. This puppy, although very sweet, has earned several nicknames such as: “Destroyer of Dandelions”, “Conquer of Clover”, and “Arbiter of Awes” as she explores her home in MI. She has her family already wrapped around her adorable little paw… fitting for her namesake!

Desert Sol Appa Michaels (formerly known as Anwill)

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Appa

Sex:

Male

Weight:

17lb 8oz

Destination:

Darren wanted his pup's name to come from an epic, adventurous story and after hearing Anwil’s description of “thoughtful in his actions”, Appa from the Nickelodeon cartoon, Avatar: The Last Airbender fit. In the cartoon, Appa is a giant flying bison, and he is the spirit animal and lifelong companion to the show's main protagonist. He is intelligent, trusting, loving & affectionate, especially with his friends. Appa is a thick-fur monster that sheds at the end of winter (fitting for Chinooks). Darren hopes to share many epic adventures with Appa while enjoying the CA outdoors - although I’m sure this Appa won’t let him fly on his back!

Desert Sol Brisa Hailey

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Hailey

Sex:

Female

Weight:

13lb 9oz

Destination:

Brisa is heading to OR with James and Carrie and their two boys! The boys picked the name Hailey because they thought it was befitting of a younger sister. The name Hailey means “meadow” in Old English, “hero” in Norse and “wise one” in Irish. The family loves being outdoors and also lives dedicated to service to others, so her name’s meaning fits well with her new family’s lifestyle. She will join them in their adventures and hopefully will contribute positively to the lives of others, as she is already doing to theirs. This sweet and energetic girl has fit well into their lives, and yes her tail is still wagging a million miles a minute every time she sees someone!

Desert Sol Amor Del Cristo

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Amor

Sex:

Male

Weight:

15lb 0oz

Destination:

Amor is the lucky pup that will be staying with John and Tiina and momma Zia in AZ! The Valentine Litter all had names that mean “love” and they um… loved the name (parden the pun). To fancy it up they added Del Cristo, which in Spanish means “of Christ”. Combined, Amor Del Cristo means “Love of Christ”. They are a religious family and likes the way it sounds. A few of their other pets also have Spanish names, a horse named Rosa and a cat named Negra, so Amor will fit in well with this family! Amor will not only have his momma Zia, but also many chickens, cats and horses to live with. He will go on many hikes and trail rides with the horses! Great living for an athletic pup!

Desert Sol Yoshi (formerly known as Eros)

chinook puppy

Call Name:

Yoshi

Sex:

Male

Weight:

16lb 15oz

Destination:

Yoshi got to hang out with his brother Amor and momma Zia for a while longer as his new family was on a family cruise when it was time to go home! He now lives in CA with Derrick and Jennifer and their two girls. They were having a hard time finding a cool name for their pup that they all loved. Jennifer took Japanese in college and even lived there after graduation, so they started looking at Japanese names. Yoshi means “good luck, good, righteous” in Japanese. The family instantly liked it and thought it was cute as it also referred to Yoshi the dinosaur in the Super Mario games. He even has a new movie coming out too, so Yoshi will be famous among the neighborhood kids!
