Week 4 - 11/19/2023

The puppies are four weeks old and what a joyful bunch they are. We are truly enjoying each of them. This week they are all over 5 lbs. with everyone gaining around 2 lbs. since last week (give or take a couple of ounces). The feedings are going well, and Momma Keelie is really backing off on feeding them. Of course, Aunt Myka is there if they are really hungry.

This last week we continued with introducing new sounds, textures, and toys. The pups have been introduced to tile, laminate, carpet, concrete, grass, dirt, and plastic to date. And the sounds they encountered are thunderstorms, fireworks, lawnmowers, some construction trucks, and fly overs by the military helicopters. We use YouTube for some of our sounds (the TV is right above their play area). Their playing is much more rambunctious and lasts longer. Lots of growls and barking going on now during play time. They also have started to dream and often you will hear them making play noises while they are asleep. The pups learned to push a small ball around and how to pick up some of the toys and carry them.

The puppies also spend a portion of each day outside (if the weather allows) this helps to engage them in different ways of playing. The pups are already often sleeping through most of the night and usually only wake up if one of the big dogs goes in the pen to check on them. But they are easily falling back asleep... usually that is. One night, one of the big dogs pushed open the pen door and two of the pups climbed out and wandered around. Momma Keelie came to let us know we needed to come get them. LOL... those pups, Lutin and Griffin, had a grand adventure.

Their personalities have really started to show during this last week. The calmer ones are Gremlin, Gnome, Adaro and Siren. The vocal ones are Lutin and Kobold with Griffin and Pixie the adventurous ones. I cannot wait to see what the new charges are this week regarding their developments.

This next week the pups will enter the awareness phase where their playing will increase with growling, chasing and play kill games. Their visual distance perception will improve along with their physical and mental abilities. They should start to climb, tug on things, and chew the toys. Their feeding schedule will be cut back from 6 times per day to 5 times a day with a bigger portion each time. It will be a fun week to watch the Puppy Cam.
