Week 3 - 5/25/2014
Week 3 already, where has the time gone!? It just flew by and maybe that’s because the puppies are acting more like real dogs and are running around keeping us busy! These little guys are pretty mobile, well when they are awake, and can take off in that one second you are not watching. Although they are adventurous, they do require you to help them when they stray too far and are “lost”. :) We are seeing a lot more play fighting with these guys and they are trying out their new teeth on each other. Once these teeth are fully emerged I’m sure the toys will get more use then since their siblings will no longer want to be the practice grounds for chewing.
The puppies have experienced their first goat’s milk snack and mushy puppy kibble meals. This helps Kyra out now that their teeth are coming in and when they do get a snack at her milk bar, it’s usually not for long since they eat pretty quickly now! She gives them shorter feeding periods and is not shy to give them a growl warning to get off when she’s had enough. Just as typical young kids do, the puppies love to play with their food (kibble), and in their food, during mealtimes!
Since the weather has been nice in the mornings we’ve been letting the puppies have breakfast outside in the yard and then hang out on the patio for a few hours. They’ve gotten some visitors, some with young kids, to help socialize them. They’ve been on or eaten on several different surfaces and we’ll continue to introduce them to new ones (the washing machine is EVERYONE’S favorite- NOT!). Now that they can hear, we have been starting to introduce loud noises such as sudden yells, claps, pans banging, vacuuming and thunderstorms. This will continue into next week as well.
Kiara has been having some fun play times with herself (or imaginary friend?) as she hops and barks and wiggles all on her own (check out one of the videos of this week to see her in action). Shenzi is our super lover, always finding her way into your arms for some cuddling. Zazu is our little strategizer, contemplating her surroundings before diving in for play (well she’s gotta find the perfect sibling to pounce on!).
One thing that’s funny with her is you see her sitting there, you look away, when you look back she’s suddenly closer to you but she’s still sitting there, you look away, and when you look back she’s right next to you looking for some love!! How does she do that so sneakily?! Askari is our super player whether it’s with you, his siblings or the toys. He has the highest tail WPM of all the pups (that’s Wags Per Minute). Kovu continues his adventures and Rafiki and Simba are our snugglers. If you thought week 3 was adorable, wait as we unveil week 4 with the puppies! Their antics get cuter, and more mischievous too. Our favorite part of the day is just hanging out watching TV with a puppy in our arms. :)
