Week 7 - 6/22/2014
Week 7 arrives with mixed feelings. Known as the bittersweet week, we are torn with our love of our pups and their sweet-selves and adorableness as they play with each other and us, while at the same time we are counting down the days until they go home because they don’t sleep as much and aren’t afraid to explore and terrorize our backyard while running in 7 different directions causing trouble! Puppy wrangling becomes our workout program during this time. :) The pups went to the vet for their checkup and first set of vaccinations and were super troopers throughout the entire process! Most were just slightly tentative at first but then played and got pets from me (Kristy) while they took their turns with the vet. Rafiki was our model pup as she walked in all cool and confident and just hung out with the vet without a care in the world! All 7 pups have a clean bill of health!
Week 7 was also exhausting for us and the pups as we did their final structure evaluations and the temperament testing. It took a lot of time to record, view and take notes for each pup, which took forever because none wanted to stay in a “stack” for too long and were so squirmy! I can tell you I don’t want to talk about a pup’s stop, topline, hocks, or pasterns for a looonngg time!! ;o) With the structural evaluations, temperament tests and personality notes of each pup in hand, we then matched up each of our little babies with their new families! You’ll get to meet the new families and hear all about them in Week 8’s update!
Zazu and Kovu learned their “Roo” very well and were top notch Rooer’s in the pack! Zazu used her sweet Rooing to try to sway Spyro to play with her. Unfortunately it didn’t work. ;o) Kovu and Askari were the only two pups to sprout ‘up’ ears. When they were in the backyard with their collars off they looked like two coyote pups playing!
Simba is a cool pup that earned the nickname ‘Dreamboat,’ yep that explains him in a nutshell. Kiara is nicknamed ‘Happy’ because her face lights up when she sees people and bounds over to them to lick their face off! She was excellent playing with our niece and nephews that came over to play with them. And Rafiki took up a weird habit of armpit licking… yeah don’t know what to say about that!
Next week will complete the Lion King Litter’s journey with us as they head off to new adventures with their forever families. And we are super excited to be keeping one of them to join the Desert Sol pack!
