Keelie and Bruin are quite the pair! Both dogs are huge cuddle bugs, quite chatty, friendly, empathetic, and very people (and animal) oriented! Bruin is a curious and affectionate boy who loves all animals and people who he meets. He has that Chinook quality of bringing a toy over to greet you if you come to visit. He loves going on walks and car rides and is a great adventure buddy. Keelie is a giant mushball who loves all the people in her family, including the grandchildren. She will get jealous if her sister Myka is getting attention, so she will plop herself down in your lap to be sure she's the closest to you and your affection! She was an excellent big "aunt" to Myka's last litter of puppies. She would lay in the whelping box, help clean up, play with the pups and even tried helping feed them! We think she'll be an excellent mother herself! The puppies from this pairing should be very loving, social and maybe a tad on the chatty side... ;o)

This will be a satellite litter for Desert Sol Chinooks with the puppies being raised in Clarksville, Tennessee with Keelie's family and Desert Sol assisting Keelie's family as much as possible, including the screening and supporting of the puppy’s new homes. Since this is a Chinook Breed Conservation Program, we'll be especially interested in homes willing to keep their dogs open for future breeding.

Keelie is a very sweet and goofy soul. She also loves people and her sister but is happy to play by herself or sunbathe. One of Keelie’s favorite things is to cuddle with anyone that will let her. She thinks that she is a lap dog. She likes to play fetch, go for car rides, and play with her sister and dog cousins. However, she draws the line of playing with the other dogs and people when it comes to swimming as she does not like water of any kind. Unlike her sister, she can be vocal when she sees things she wants like food or playmates. Keelie loves children and is very tolerant of them, she enjoys having them crawl on her as much as she likes to cuddle with them. She is always right there playing with our grandchildren in whatever current adventure they are on from building things to make believe trips around the house and back yard.

Keelie is very empathetic towards people and animals. If I have a bad dream she comes and soothes me and she was a great assistant to her sister’s litter. She stayed with Myka, helped nurse the pups and played with them as they grew. Keelie is a member of both the Chinook Breed Conservation Program and the Bernese Mountain Dog Vitality Project. Future Chinook and BMD litters will bring better health and diversity to both breeds.

Bruin is a handsome, healthy and intelligent four-legged companion! Bruin’s curiosity knows no bounds, and he's always eager to learn new tricks and explore new adventures with his favorite humans. When guests come over, Bruin's warm heart shines through. He can't resist bringing a toy to anyone who visits, making them feel instantly welcome and loved. One of Bruin's most endearing qualities is his love for all dogs. He's the ultimate playdate partner, making friends wherever he goes. Whether at the park or on long walks, Bruin is the social butterfly who brings out the best in every furry friend he meets.

Speaking of walks, Bruin absolutely adores them! He's the ideal walking buddy and he'll happily accompany us on long strolls through the neighborhood or hikes in the great outdoors. His enthusiasm for car rides is just as infectious, making him the perfect co-pilot for all our adventures. In the morning, Bruin is known to be quite chatty, but his wagging tail and bright eyes are a cheerful way to start the day. And when it comes to mealtime, he's the picture of patience, waiting for his dinner or treats with unwavering loyalty. We look forward to seeing Bruin's best qualities in these pups!

Week 3 - 11/12/2023

What an exciting week it has been for the Mythical Creatures litter!!! All eyes and ears are open, the pups are getting around so much better. Siren has been the best so far at attempting to run. She even tried once and didn’t fall. The pups are now playing with each other, mostly they do the mouth playing but add in some barking and growling. When one makes a noise, the others must follow so it has been a chorus of noises over the last few days.

The pups finished their neuro stimulation exercises and are now experiencing new surfaces. So far it has been tile. furry, soft, and linoleum. We will continue to introduce the pups to new surfaces and sounds over the next few weeks.

Yesterday the indoor puppy play area was set up to give the pups more room to roam and allow both big dogs in with them. Toys have been added and they are starting to interact with the toys. Gnome (Blue) loves to cuddle with the toys. Adaro (Brown) will often be off on his own. As soon as they were in the play area he went off by himself and slept. Siren (Pink) is the adventurer she had to inspect the entire pen before allowing herself to rest. Pixie (Yellow) remains the bossy big sister and is very often in the middle of the play pile. In the play area we have a designated potty spot that we will be teaching the pups to go in over the next few weeks. Amazingly, both Siren and Lutin (Orange) both go to that area and do their business already!! Wow what smart pups these are.

Keelie is doing well and looks as if she may start to wean the pups in the next week or so. She has a pretty regimented feeding schedule. However, Aunt Myka now has decided she needs to assist Keelie in feeding the pups, often staying with them hours on end. So far Myka’s milk hasn’t come in much. Keelie seems to welcome the assistance of her sister in raising the pups. Myka guards the litter from our two cats, whereas Keelie is like come-on in. LOL, such different styles of raising the litter.

The pups received their deworming medicine and had their Embark DNA samples taken. Overall, a busy last few days with them. They were also introduced to goat's milk and boy did they love it. They all took to the experience right away and licked the bowl dry (much to the chagrin of the big dogs, as they waited patiently for the leftovers).

This next week will bring the experience of the outdoors as we will be setting up the outdoor play area, new toys with different textures and sounds along with the introduction of puppy gruel. It will be an exciting time as they continue to develop their personalities and explore their world.
