Week 5 - 11/26/2023
Over this last week all pups grew by leaps and bounds with the 5-week weights ranging from 6 to over 8 pounds. All the pups are eating the puppy mush very well and look forward to the meals. Keelie and Myka both have backed off on the nursing, so the pups are maintaining a healthy weight gain. The puppies are eating meals 5 times a day until week 6 when they will be decreased to 4 times a day.
Last week’s focus was on introducing the pups to the world individually by having them all spend time in the front yard alone. During this time, they were able to spend time with our cat, Lily, without Aunt Myka pushing the cat away from the litter. In addition, they met some of the neighborhood children. We continue to expose them to loud sounds and music.
On Thanksgiving Day, the pups were introduced to two family-owned dogs, which after the initial excitement they paid little attention to any of the big dogs. The pups were much more interested in the new humans they met and all the love and play time they had. They were very much tuckered out by the end of the day.
The puppy’s play has become more aggressive towards each other as they explore their capabilities of running, jumping, and fighting with each other. They have started to play tug of war with some of the toys and the blue pee pads. Leaves have become one of their favorite toys when they are outside.
The pups also continue to learn to potty in their area and are doing better in doing their business in the proper area. During the next few weeks there should be an improvement in the use of the potty area.
Their personalities continue to show individualities. The calmer ones are Gremlin, Adaro, Kobold, and Griffin. Gnome, Pixie and Siren are the adventurous ones. Gnome really likes to spend time outside the pen and explore the house. Lutin is becoming the cuddler and is always the first one up to any human.
This next week we will continue to add different sounds and textures. We will also add some treats in the snuffle blanket and introduce them to low steps and a slide to start them on stair training.
