Week 6 - 12/23/2012

Week 6 the puppies played up a storm. Kyra is starting to get in on the playing action now that she doesn't have to be mom and feed them all the time. The puppies get confused at times since one minute mom is growling at them to keep away from her belly, then the next she's hopping around growling saying "Let's Play!". So the little ones go into a submissive position until they realize mom is just playing with them. She tries to get them to run because she loves the chase game, although even though the pups are running like mad, Kyra can catch them in one gallop! Soon I'm sure they'll get more confident to play a little harder with mom. The puppies continue to explore our backyard and we let them out to play as much as we can these days. They love the sound of the sliding door as we open it and will whine to go play outside. All of the puppies have now at least fallen once into the pond and swam around. Apollo seemed pretty calm as he analyzed the situation to find the best place to pull himself out! The cutest thing I saw this week is watching a puppy prancing around the backyard with their head held up high with a prized toy in their mouth! It looks like they're saying "Look what I got!" with a big puppy smile on their face!

We try to get them outside in the morning before breakfast and each time the group wakes up while being inside to minimize the 'puppy cleanup'. So far it's working like a charm and one evening while eating dinner inside, Ra went over to the sliding door and started scratching and whining so Jon opened the door to see what he wanted and he ran outside to poop all on his own! Several siblings ran out with him and so we now send them outside around meals to make sure they get the hint. :) We are proud of these little 'poopy' moments.

Next week brings Christmas and so the puppies get to visit with some out of town family and play in wrapping paper (the cats love that part and I'm sure the puppies will too). We did special Christmas pictures for their Week 6 photos for you to enjoy. During this week the puppies new families will be notified and will begin preparing for their new arrival in a few weeks! All of us at Desert Sol (humans and pups alike) wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday!
