We are pleased to announce the successful mating of 'PR' Mountain Thunder Great Kyraina DNA-VIP ("Kyra") and Moonsong Time Bandit ("Bandit"). It was a temperate August afternoon on an overcast day in normally sunny Long Beach, CA. Before they saw each other, they smelled each other (like dogs often do) and became excited for their first meeting. Bandit chattered with excitement as he strode to meet his first love. The two hit it off at once, playing and chasing and generally enjoying each others company. As the afternoon turned into evening (yes it took that long) the love birds retired for the night, satisfied and looking forward to future meetings. Eight puppies, three male and five female, were born from this mating 11/9/2012. Don't forget to like us on Facebook for all the pupdates up to and after the litter has been born!

Both Kyra and Bandit are average-size (50 and 65 pounds respectively) and are CERF normal (eyes) and OFA good (hips). Neither has a history of seizures or food allergies. This joining crosses the Alpine (Bandit's lineage) and Great Mountain (Kyra's lineage) Chinook lines. This joining offers good diversity as both Kyra and Bandit descend from separate genetically diverse purebred crosslines.

Kyra is sweet, smart, and loves people (ANY people will do- although she has her favorites). She is well-socialized with other dogs, cats, ferrets, and children of all sizes and should make an excellent mother. She is a typical Chinook in many ways, especially being lazy when her owners are lazy, and being active when her owners are active. She has completed several levels of training classes and enjoys doing tricks for either cat food or peanut butter (her favorite). NOTE: Put your face near Kyra's and prepare to get a tongue bath (she loves to lick).

Bandit is loving, smart, handsome (Kyra certainly thought so!) and loves going on outdoor adventures with his people and his Chinook brother, Ki. In true Chinook tradition, Bandit is built for pulling and has a strong, large chest which he knows how to use. When not in the middle of an outside adventure, Bandit is a couch potato that enjoys curling up next to his people and pretending like he is a lap dog.

Week 8 - 1/10/2013

Well we got a bit lazy writing week 8 info so now that our home is now back to normal and our puppies have all gone home we can finalize our week 8 photos and info for you. It was a hard day to say goodbye to the little pups, but it was also a lot of fun to get to know the new family members that made it out to pick up the puppies. It reinforces your thoughts that you made the right decision to pick these families for your babies. :) Lio was the last pup to go and that made it all the more difficult to say goodbye to him, but he is doing great in his new home so it couldn't make us happier! It was interesting to see how Kyra handled hanging out with one of her puppies for those last few weeks. She had a blast, but we sense moments where they will need to be outside so we can have our sanity!!! They were quite loud and for some reason Kyra has super energy reserves and was trying to play with poor Lio even when he was falling asleep. Ah what we get to look forward to on our next litter when we keep a pup of our own!

Now my favorite part in this puppy raising process is to read about all the pupdates from the new families and see pictures of them growing up and exploring their new lives! I will admit that I am a bit of a Facebook stalker so I can round up all the cute puppy pictures so that both of us (and the FB community once I post them) can ooh and ahh at the little cuties! We loved hearing how Maia was such a well-behaved pup at her extended family's dinner as she impressed everyone and how Kody graduated her first puppy class and is learning agility and traveling all over Florida in her parents' plane.

Sury is teaming up with Kona to tear up their home as they play and romp and play "keep away" from each other with toys. Lyric is starting to grow into a little beauty who will soon be a road trip girl to go places with her dad!

It's funny that even though our next litter will be a couple years away, we are constantly thinking of fun new puppy litter themes for the names and what toys or ideas we'll incorporate in our next litter. :) I think we got the Chinook breeder fever...
