Before... The weekend of the solar eclipse, April 8th, 2024, was the magic moment for Bryson and Greta. Greta traveled 3 hours north over the Canadian/American border to Ottawa and rented a Vrbo for the weekend. It was a super “meet cute” and they both liked each other right away. After several attempts on April 7th, when we finally were not paying attention, they tied and a little cardinal in the tree above sang for them. That one time did the trick. Greta left the next day for home right as the totality of the eclipse happened and drove all the way through the band of totality home. Hence, their litter will have a Celestial theme to remember the lovely weekend.
The day of... Thursday June 6th Becky and I were going back and forth about going to work. In the middle of the night Becky came and said Greta’s temperature had dropped again and was now 98.6. I decided then that I was not going to school. At 6am Becky decided it was not happening and she was going to school and got in the shower. So I was on watch for about 5 minutes when I saw puppy #1 coming! Becky was in the shower and Jon was asleep when I ran upstairs. "Puppy!" "Puppy!!!" We were fairly prepared and then it all began. Greta had a great pace and is such a good girl (10 pups in 6 hours!). Her daughter Hermione was great, but we called grandma Barb to come get her so Jon, Becky and I could focus on the whelping. Everyone is Chinook tawny in color with dashes of white here and there.
This is Greta’s second litter and she seems in more solid shape throughout the process. After the first puppy we started giving her liquid Calcium, Oral Cal Plus as directed throughout the rest of the whelping and some Nutri-Stat towards the later puppies for quick energy
...and a couple slices of liverwurst here and there. We think that really made a difference in Greta’s stamina. And then it was done. Puppies born. Greta kept having contractions and we thought maybe there was an 11th, but it was just her body ejecting all the other fun stuff.
So now, the moment you've all been waiting for, we would like to introduce the puppies of the Celestial Eclipse litter, in order of appearance:
