Week 3 - 6/27/2024

Sunday our first guests arrived; our brother in law, niece and nephew. They washed their hands and took great direction in when to engage with the pups and when to let them sleep! We are growing and growing and need our sleep. Greta has been great with the guests and totally cool, but keeps an eye on everyone.

Another fun bit of this week was the DNA testing for the puppies. We had an Embark kit for each pup and then swabbed their jaw for 30 seconds and sent it off! It will be cool to see what comes back:) ¾ Chinook and ¼ Bernese Mountain Dog and then all the other fun details!

Greta also has moved to longer breaks between feedings and shorter feedings. By Monday we introduced Goat’s milk and everyone is lapping pretty well, with only a little milk in the puppy feeding bowl. There are a lot of hands and feet in the bowl too and occasionally Nova takes a nose dive in her enthusiasm.

Greta is a very clean dog. She is all over any poop fast enough that we wondered if a couple of them were even pooping. Now that they are peeing more and everywhere, Greta does not want to lay in the whelping box unless we lay down a clean towel or change all the linens. She is a queen for sure. More often she gets comfy outside the box and we bring pups to her.

This was a busy week with company over and the end of school. The puppies are hungry and have teeth. They’ve had more goat milk and have had a couple sessions of soften food and milk, but no one is quite interested in food yet, except Greta who thinks it is all for her.

Yesterday and today we had our Bizup family over for a little reunion and everyone helped socialize the puppies. Greta was great with everyone except our little nephew Weston, who is short and short humans must be watched carefully because of their unpredictability. Weston was amazing with the pups and so excited. Everyone cuddled and watched the pups in their slightly expanded play area outside the whelping box.

The usual suspects are fast movers on their feet: Venus, Asterix, Mars. Everyone is having spurts of attempting to move quickly and lost more playing with each other and the couple of little toys for chewing. Nova has been very interested in the goat milk, while Luna seems to still wonder what the heck it is. Artemis has been zooming around.

Celeste, Andromeda, Nebula, Aurora seem content and occasionally have to let us know that they are “hungry now!” by squawking. We’ve been trying out lots of different surfaces and different rooms. Adventures galore and then sleep..thank goodness.
