Birth

Birth - 2/19/2022

Desert Sol Myka and Gateway Shaktoolik (Ooli) welcomed eight beautiful, healthy pups into the world between the waning hours of Saturday, 2/19 and early morning hours of Sunday 2/20.

When you have a first time mama dog, you never know whether they are going to be an easy or a hard whelper. Luckily, Myka is the former- so much so that I'd call her the "ninja whelper"! Often between pups she would make no noise or indication at all that she was having contractions and we'd look down and see another puppy had entered the world! "Sister" Keelie was a little overwhelmed by all this activity, but in the days after birth has come around to the pups.

All pups were whelped naturally (Myka takes after her mom Kiki and grandma Kyra regarding this). After Myka's temperature dropped, she decided to have pups only 4 hours later! Myka's human mom (Pam) took Jon (Myka's breeder) to nearby downtown Clarksville to see the sights. Luckily we returned before Myka started whelping, but only by about 1.5 hours. Having a nice calm environment and just a few of her human loved ones around made this an easy whelping with honestly nothing spectacular except the fact that she started so soon after her temp drop!

This litter is named for nearby Nashville (aka the Music City), honoring the country music legends who lived and recorded in this region of America. From its very beginnings, Nashville grew from a foundation built on music. Music has been the common thread connecting the life and soul of the city and its people and visitors have ventured here to experience the music that weaves such a fundamental pattern in its cultural, business and social fabric.
