Week 2 - 3/5/2022

Week 2 for the Music City Litter has had some big milestones. All the pups' eyes have opened and they are showing signs of curiosity of this new world they can now see. All the pups are stronger and walking better if still wobbly. With their new eye sight they have started to play with each other as best they can without their balance stabilized yet. Both Garth and Reba have shown interest in getting outside the whelping box when Momma is just outside it. I am betting by mid-week one of them will have accomplished the great feat of going up and over the opening. Garth still remains the calm adventurous pup with Reba being the vocal adventurous one. I can see that she will be the one to bring the others along on overcoming the new obstacles they will face in the next few weeks. Cash and Jo Dee like to be held by their humans and often just will stay with us while we watch TV. While Willie, Dolly, Shania & Wynona love to cuddle and play with each other. The pups have had visits from their human Aunt Amanda this week and really loved romping all over her.

Aunt Keelie is very much over her initial fear of these new household additions, she actually this week got all four feet in the whelping box. She helps Momma with the cleaning of the pups and very much likes the puppy breath, so she tends to focus on the head and leave the cleaning of the pups’ bottoms to Momma.

Momma actually let one of the cats finally get a peak into the box this week. But the other cat she still steers away from the box, but will let her in the room with the pups now. Momma continues to take her two walks a day and is spending more time just outside the box watching over the pups.

Photos

Momma is a short-haired Chinook and Papa is a long-haired Chinook, so we guessed that we would have some of both. To our best guess at this time we anticipate the following will be long hair: Garth, Jo Dee, Wynona, Shania; short hair: Cash, Reba, Dolly; unsure: Willie. The next couple of weeks will see how correct these guesses are. We are really looking forward to seeing what the pups accomplish in Week 3.
